My last respect for Mbeki is slowly fading. I believed (not so sure anymore) that the best thing that could have happened would have to give him another term beyond 2009. Because i believed and still believe that the argument advanced by the youth league; that the constitution reguires of the president to serve two terms, is flawed. Yes that is the general rule but with the required majority it can be ammended.I think the president through his actions of late ( by trying to win the confidence of the ANC faithful, myself being one) is really showing how desperare he is to have another term in office. To such an extent that he is becoming ANC drunk. Also, they are harping on about the past, forgetting the current real issues that stares us in the face, generally poverty, more spesific, unemplyoment, housing, acces adeqaute healtcare. Name changes are not going to change our circumstances. Proudly ANC

The difference is that in our democracy (because no matter what that ANC website says, we do live in a constitutional democracy) I can say what I want and know I will not be thrown in jail (as was the case pre-1994).

I think it is important for all of us to keep on saying what we believe, to criticise when it is appropriate (and also to praise when it is appropriate) and not to be intimidated by anybody. Because if we do not demand the space to say what we beleive, that space might well disappear over time.....

Well said Piere. But doesn't this amount to treason, subversion, terrorism, sabotage, or whatever? In the old SA it would have easily been classified under one of those categories. Anyway, I think your article and criticism is spoton!
